START HERE · THREE PRODUCT TYPES

The same word can point to very different care.

“Peptide” is a chemistry word. You still need the product’s name, what type of product it is, and how a patient obtains it.

Three connected points labelled FDA-APPROVED, MADE TO ORDER and RESEARCH LABEL. FDA-APPROVED MADE TO ORDER RESEARCH LABEL

Approved medicine

As of September 2026, the FDA has approved the semaglutide products Ozempic and Wegovy as medicines.

Approval belongs to a specific product and use. A familiar ingredient name does not turn every version of it into the approved product.

Made-to-order medicine

Compounded medicines do not have FDA approval as of September 2026, and the agency does not confirm before sale that they work, are safe or are made well.

With compounding, a pharmacist or doctor prepares a medicine for an individual order instead of providing a drug company’s ready-made product.

Research-labelled chemical

Online chemicals labelled “for research use only” are not medicines as of September 2026, and getting an injection this way is not a legal route to treatment.

A research label is not a shortcut around medical care. Pause when the page also offers mixing supplies or instructions.

CHAPTER RECAP

Keep this: approved, compounded and research-labelled are not grades of the same thing. They are different product types.
